Strange Coincidences

It wasn’t planned this way, honest. However, it just dawned on me that today (6/6 since I don’t know when I will actually get around to publishing this) is the 2nd anniversary of the day that Lizzy first introduced me to Running Man and I fell down the rabbit hole.
Today is also moving day as we relocate to the heart of Seoul. Fortunately, we have none of the ‘adventures’ that we had with our last one which is a mixed blessing. It is good that it was smooth and hassle free; however, it also means that there are no stories to tell.
We spent yesterday walking around in Insadong. Of all the areas that we have visited so far, this is by far the most artistic with murals adorning all the walls including those below the bridges. There are street musicians and other acts. There is even a marching band parade. It is vibrant and festive as we stroll the streets, shop, and eat.
Though not deliberately searching for them, during our meandering we stumbled upon several ‘must see’ (according to the tour book) sites of the area. Cheonggyecheon stream runs smack down the middle of the district. It was a refreshing break not just from the heat but from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We also find Tapgol Park which is the first modern park to be built in Seoul. Within are two remaining structures from Heungboksa Temple built during the Goryeo Dynasty. It was later renamed Weongaksa Temple during the Joseon Era. It was also the site of the March 1st Movement, the uprising of the people against the Japanese occupation of Korea.
Coincidentally today is Korea’s Memorial Day so many places are closed. We did find a small mom-and-pop corner store open and purchase groceries to make ramyeon. Of course, I had to end the day with watching the latest episode of Running Man which falls on the 6th year anniversary of its first filming (not broadcast) of the show.
It still seems surreal to be here considering South Korea was never even on my bucket list of countries to visit and here I am for the second time. It also dawned on me that we are already halfway through our trip. It seems like we have done so little and yet done so much. There also seems like there is so much more left to experience. Will one more week be enough to accomplish it all? Mollayo. But we will try!
